York Cricket Club's First Ever Family Event: A Day to Remember!
Last Saturday marked a milestone for York Cricket Club (YCC) as we hosted our inaugural Members Day event, a casual and joyful hangout with YCC members and their families. Under the capable organization of Stefan Gray, the event turned out to be a delightful success, with smiles, laughter, and camaraderie filling the air.
Kickoff and Welcome
The event kicked off at 12 noon, with members and their families finding comfortable spots in the shade (a necessity given the hot weather) to set up their chairs and mats. The anticipation was palpable as everyone settled in. The day officially began with a few inspiring words from our captain and president, setting the stage for a day full of fun and games.
Fun, Food, and Fellowship
The festivities began with an assortment of delicious food set up at 1:30pm. Thanks to our sponsors—Realtor Mahesh Mani, Indraprastha Restaurant, Marché Leo’s, and K2B Studios by Jailani Basha—there was no shortage of delectable treats, beverages, and desserts to keep everyone energized throughout the day. The desserts from Marché were absolutely divine, offering a symphony of sweet flavors that delighted everyone's taste buds. The main entrées from Indraprastha Restaurant were bursting with delicious and rich flavors, leaving everyone craving more.
Activities Galore
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the YCC Family Day Double Wicket Tournament. Jayantha took charge of organizing the teams and explaining the rules, ensuring that everyone, from cricket enthusiasts to complete novices, could participate and have fun.
But the cricket tournament was just the beginning. We played an entertaining game of "Two Truths and a Lie" to get to know each other better, with plenty of surprising revelations and laughter. Another hit was the egg catching game, where several eggs met their fate on the ground thanks to some butterfingers, adding a fun and messy twist to the day’s activities.

A Bit of a Slip-Up and a Lot of Fun
Amid all the excitement, the plan to award medals to the winners of the day’s activities somehow slipped everyone's mind. In a humorous twist, the medals ended up adorning none other than Stefan himself! Our charismatic organizer and MC became the unintended star of the show, draped in all the medals like a champ! This memorable and chuckle-worthy moment had everyone smiling. Rest assured, the winners will receive their medals soon. But for now, let's all celebrate Stefan for his outstanding efforts and for giving us an unforgettable laugh.

Gratitude and Acknowledgments
The success of the event was a collective effort, and Stefan Gray expressed his gratitude in his post-event note. Special thanks go to Echi Fernando for arriving early to help with the setup, taking on the role of MC/commentator, and even serenading us at the end. Lathika and Jay also deserve recognition for organizing the games and running the cricket tournament smoothly. And, of course, a big thank you to everyone who stayed behind to help clean up.
We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Jailani Basha and Mohan Bonda, both members of YCC and good friends of ours, for their generous support through their businesses, K2B Studios and Indraprastha Restaurant respectively.
Despite the busy schedules that kept some members and their families away, those who attended had a fantastic time. We hope to see even more of you at the next Members Day!
Stefan summed it up perfectly in his post-event note: "Thank you to everyone who came out today. I’m glad everyone enjoyed themselves. It couldn’t have happened without everyone’s help. Looking forward to doing this again next year!"
Closing Thoughts
Until next time, York family—keep the spirit of cricket and community alive!
