Dada Meets Dom, Jamaica Beckons, and York’s AGM Recap!

A Warm Return to Blogging!

It’s been a while since our last post, but as the frost creeps into Toronto, we’re warming things up with some exciting updates from York Cricket Club. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, November 10, 2024, was brimming with engaging discussions, new appointments, and plans for the 2025 season. A heartfelt thanks to outgoing President Rohan Vanigasooriyar and Secretary Ranjith Muhandiram for their invaluable contributions to the club. Jayantha Abeysekera steps in as our new President, while Shawn Rankothgedara takes over as Secretary. Rajit Kadirgamar is our new Fixtures Secretary, with Stefan Gray continuing as Social Secretary and Atulan Navaratnam as Treasurer.

Discussions covered the growing financial demands of the club, plans to secure sponsorships, the introduction of environmentally conscious practices, and continued efforts to enhance the club culture. Notably, the club is revisiting the idea of registering as a non-profit organization—a topic left open for further exploration. A big shoutout to all members who contributed ideas, proving once again why YCC remains a vibrant, member-driven club.

Jamaica Awaits!

The York Cricket Club family is gearing up for the much-anticipated tour to Montego Bay, Jamaica! With families busy packing and our cricketers (hopefully!) starting their practice sessions, the buzz is real. If any of our squad is reading this, do let us know in the comments how the practice is shaping up! Let’s make this tour as memorable off the field as it promises to be on it.

Dada meets Our Dom!

Our very own Dominic Dumenil had a once-in-a-lifetime encounter, bumping into Indian cricketing legend Sourav Ganguly, affectionately known as ‘Dada,’ during his recent travels to Chennai. Ever the ambassador for York Cricket Club, Dominic couldn’t resist telling Dada, “I’m a cricketer too, and I play for York CC in Toronto!” He even went on to share tales of York’s memorable trip to Saint Lucia and the club’s upcoming tour to Jamaica. Talk about putting York CC on the international cricket map!

A Mid-Flight Encounter of Cricketing Legends (and One York CC Ambassador)

From Dom-Dum to Da-Da, it seems cricket connects us all—whether it’s in-field, out-field, or mid-flight. We’ll be sharing their photo soon, but let’s just say Dominic managed to combine starstruck admiration with solid club promotion. Kudos, Dom!

As the holiday season approaches, York Cricket Club continues to be a hub of activity and camaraderie. Whether it’s the AGM, a cricket tour, or chance encounters with legends, there’s never a dull moment.
