Two Saturdays and two Sundays. Two rollicking wins, two hard-fought defeats. A 139 that bent a chase to our will, a blazing 101, and a boundary catch that seemed to pause gravity itself. Here’s how York Cricket Club rode a whirlwind fortnight and wrapped up another winning season, 17–13.
YCC vs Exiles CC — Cruise Control at Glendon
Result: YCC won by 8 wickets (Exiles 190 all out; YCC 193/2 in 28.2 overs)

With the ball: Rohan Vanigasooriyar (2/30), Venkat Sivaprakash (2/20), Karthik Nalubolu (2/38) and Harry Shivs (2/33) shared the load to pin Exiles to 190. Andrew Anandappa chipped in with a key strike, and the catching was sharp—Karthik and Harry both in the book.
With the bat: Dominic Dumenil 80 (73) set the tempo—punchy through cover, calm under the high ball. Anuradha Gamage 44 was the perfect foil, and Pratha Sawant 27 (3x6)* added the finishing fireworks. York coasted home with overs to spare; a professional, green-and-red kind of win.
Opposition note: Roy Singh’s 43 held Exiles together, with Graham adding 37 (retired), but York’s discipline strangled the middle.
YCC vs Ramblers CC — One-Wicket Epic
Result: YCC won by 1 wicket (Ramblers 266/8; YCC 267/9 in 39.3 overs)

The chase of the season: Kishore Kanna Ramalingam 139 (103) was all class—gears, range, and resolve. The stand of the day came with Basha Jailani 36, a 125-run partnership that turned a steep climb into a narrow ledge. Rafi Mohamed 21 (N.O.)* kept a cool head at the end to drag us across the line with one wicket in hand.
Earlier: Dheeraj Bhatia 3/39 burst through the middle with a clutch spell; Lahiru Wijesinghe 2/37 applied pressure at both ends. Behind the sticks, Harry was lively—a stumping and a run-out in a day of small margins.
Opposition note: Shiraz’s 88 was quality, and Ramblers ran hard, but they also leaked 45 extras, and York made every free run count.
YCC vs ICICI Bank CC — A Ton, a Tea, and a Superman Catch
Result: ICICI Bank CC won by 5 wickets (YCC 244 all out; ICICI 245/5 in 38.5 overs)
Scorecard here:https://cricclubs.com/YorkCricketClubYCC/viewScorecard.do?matchId=1000&clubId=1001384
Our innings: Harry Shivs 101 (70, six 6s) lit up the ground—clean striking to every pocket. Sathishraj 39 and Charan 39 supplied the scaffolding, and at 244 we had a score to bowl at.
The moment of the week — Lahiru’s Superman: With ICICI building, Harshpreet Singh launched one destined for the rope. Lahiru Wijesinghe sprinted, leapt, and hung in the sky to reel in a miracle catch on the boundary—a full-length, gravity-defying take that had both teams applauding. Pure theatre.
Tea, elevated: Sri turned the break into a banquet—South Indian idlis, Mexican-style tacos, and a North American sliders spread. The lads ate well, then fought hard.
The chase: Mahender 60 (MOM) set the tone, and a composed finish from Anurag 29 and Naman 21** took ICICI home. Rafi 2/40 and Thaya 1/49 kept us in it, and Andrew snared the big one (Harry’s catch off his bowling), but the visitors closed it out late.
YCC vs Lumberjacks CC — Shawn’s Return & a Late Surge
Result: Lumberjacks won by 46 runs (Lumberjacks 237/8; YCC 191 all out)
Scorecard here: https://cricclubs.com/YorkCricketClubYCC/viewScorecard.do?matchId=1001&clubId=1001384
Welcome back, Shawn! Great to see Shawn Rankothgedra back in York colours after his finger injury layoff, steaming in for a full 8-over shift. The engine is humming again.
With the ball: Echi Fernando 3/42 and Rafi Mohamed 2/34 were the pick, with Pradap Devaraj 2/31 striking twice in a handy middle-overs spell. The attack kept chipping, though the extras column hurt.
The chase: Pradap 44 launched a counter, and Rafi 37 peppered the rope with towering sixes. Kishore 30 set things up, and Jayantha 19 tried to stretch it deep, but the asking rate kept nudging away. Lumberjacks’ Sandeep 3/38 and Harpreet 2/20 closed the door in the final phase.
Opposition note: Udaka 54* anchored them; cameos from Sachin 32 and Rishav 31 made the difference.
One Last Hurrah — The Intra-Club Game
From Kishore’s 139 to Harry’s 101, from meticulous spells to magic in the field, York finishes 17 wins, 13 losses—another winning season in the books.
But cricket isn’t quite over yet. We’ve got one last hurrah — the intra-club fun game on Saturday, September 20th! Everyone’s encouraged to join — players, non-players, families, kids, and friends. Come out, enjoy some cricket, share a laugh, and hang around afterwards. Who knows, you might even end up at Goose again for a cheeky farewell!
Let’s celebrate the season together — one final day of cricket with the York family before we close the chapter on 2025.
