What a week it's been for York Cricket Club. Three games in five days, plenty of drama, a few heartbreaks — and finally, that sweet taste of victory. Grab a cuppa and let's relive it all.
Saturday, June 6 – Wesley College OBA vs YCC
Wesley College OBA 164 all out vs YCC 137 all out — Wesley College OBA won by 27 runs
Saturday arrived and YCC were desperate to make a mark. The bowlers rose to the occasion with some real purpose. Rafi was the standout performer with the ball, finishing with 3 wickets while keeping things incredibly tight. Shawn matched him stride for stride, also taking 3 wickets with his relentless approach. Anuradha chipped in with another 3 wickets of his own, and Stephen did his bit as the enforcer — grinding through a full 8-over spell and grabbing 1 wicket. Karthik was miserly across his 8 overs, refusing to give anything away. Collectively, the attack kept Wesley College OBA under pressure throughout, and 164 was a score that YCC had every right to chase down.
Unfortunately, the batting told a different story. Jayantha and Sathish were back in the hut before the innings had found its feet. Charan, Rajit and a couple of quick wickets in between left YCC reeling at 40 for 6. Gunasegaran dug in for 12, and Dominic showed some grit before being dismissed. Harry stepped up when it mattered most — a blazing 35 off just 30 balls, featuring 3 fours and a six. Anuradha chipped in with a fighting 13, Rafi gave it a go with 14 off 13 balls, and Karthik held firm at the end for 7 not out. Stephen and Shawn both had their moments — but in the end, YCC fell 27 runs short. Back-to-back losses. The dressing room was subdued.
Sunday, June 7 – YCC vs Toronto Rebels CC
YCC 144 all out vs Toronto Rebels CC 145/8 — Toronto Rebels CC won by 2 wickets
Sunday brought no shortage of drama. YCC's top order had a difficult start — Sri, Raj, and Riyaj were all back in the pavilion before the innings could find any momentum. Pradap and Sri K showed some resolve to try and rebuild, but the wickets continued to fall, and at 70 for 5, the scorecard made for uncomfortable reading.
That was when Harry Shivs took matters into his own hands. When the side needed a hero, Harry stood tall and delivered — a superb 53 off 62 balls, laced with 2 fours and 3 sixes. It was an innings of real class that dragged YCC to a total they could defend. Shawn contributed a useful 9, and Echi — calm under pressure — rounded things off with 6 not out to get the team to 144.
With the ball in hand, YCC put in a solid shift. Echi led the attack with 3 wickets, keeping the Toronto batters honest throughout. Lahiru was equally impressive, adding 2 wickets with some disciplined bowling. Rafi, Shawn, and Harry each chipped in with a wicket apiece, and Sri Paran bowled tidily to complete a team effort. But the target was always within Toronto Rebels CC's reach, and they got over the line with just 2 wickets to spare. A crushing way to lose. Two wickets!
Wednesday, June 10 — Old Bais CC vs YCC (Away)
Old Bais CC 125/8 vs YCC 130/4 — YCC won by 6 wickets
It has finally happened, folks. After weeks of knocking on the door, York Cricket Club are officially on the board in 2026 — and the relief around the camp was impossible to miss.
The bowling set the tone beautifully. Echi was sharp, claiming 2 wickets. Rafi, Stephen, and Anuradha each chipped in with one apiece. Thaya, George, and Dominic all contributed with tight spells that kept Old Bais CC well contained. The fielding was switched on throughout too, with a number of crucial run-outs along the way helping restrict the damage. The result: a very manageable target of 126 to chase.
Then came the moment we have all been waiting for. Step forward, Riyaj. The man was on a completely different planet. Fifty runs off just 45 balls — four fours, and a stroll off retired not out with the game comfortably in hand. After a quieter Saturday, Riyaj reminded everyone exactly what he is capable of — composed, classy, and utterly devastating when he gets going. This win has his name written all over it, and rightly so.

Andrew was the perfect partner throughout the innings, contributing a steady and vital 31 off 69 balls — the kind of innings that does not always grab the headlines but absolutely laid the foundation. Gunasegaran got things started at the top, Sri Paran did his bit, and when the game needed finishing off, Echi (11 not out) and Basha — who announced himself with a six off just 2 balls — made sure there was no wobble. YCC crossed the line with 6 wickets to spare and nearly 8 overs remaining. Comfortable. Clinical. Beautiful.
