Last weekend, York Cricket Club kicked off their doubleheader with a thunderous win on Saturday, only to stumble into a tricky Sunday twist. The weekend had it all—heroics, heartbreak, explosive spells, and a whole lot of wides. Let’s dive in.

Game 1: YCC vs Lumberjacks CC – Timberrr! They Fell Hard.

Result: YCC won by 93 runs

It started with a toss win, and YCC chose to bat. The top order took its time to settle in, but the middle and lower order exploded into action.

  • Harry Shivs struck a classy 45, showing off finesse and timing.

  • Sathishraj anchored the innings with a patient 31.

  • Lahiru’s quick-fire 26 and Rajit's clean finishing act (14*) pushed YCC to a solid 197/7.

  • The extras column? Let’s just say Lumberjacks were in a generous mood: 40 wides!

Then came the real show—our bowlers.

Shawn Rankothgedra unleashed a spell with a double-strike that rattled the stumps and hearts, bagging an epic 6 wickets for just 23 runs.

Supporting acts:

  • Rafi Mohamed choked the run flow with 2 wickets at 1.25 economy.

  • Echi and Lahiru each chipped in with a wicket.

  • The bowling unit stayed laser-focused and bowled them out for 104 in 34.2 overs.

That’s a 93-run win to launch the weekend—and the season—with swagger.

Game 2: YCC vs Nightwatchmen CC – A Stumble at Sunset

Result: YCC lost by 5 wickets

Back on the field less than 24 hours later, YCC batted first and posted 190. And once again, Harry Shivs was in the mood to entertain.

  • He smashed 56 off 40 with six towering sixes—easily the most entertaining knock of the weekend.

  • Sri Krishnan gave us early momentum with a tidy 36.

  • Extras? Nightwatchmen kept pace with Saturday’s theme—44 wides!

With runs on the board, our bowlers had something to defend. And for a moment, it looked like a repeat of Saturday—Shawn struck again, this time grabbing 3 early wickets for just 14 runs and rattling the top order. But Ketan Rana’s composed 65 steered Nightwatchmen to a win in the 35th over. A tough pill to swallow, but the fight and spark are unmistakable.
