Hello YCC family,
After months of anticipation and countless scrolls through cricket highlight reels to fill the void, the York Cricket Club's 2025 season is finally upon us. Although we hoped to start last weekend with an exciting intra-club warmup on Saturday and a match against STC OBA on Sunday, Mother Nature had other plans. Persistent rain meant both games had to be called off—a frustrating but familiar start to Canadian spring cricket.
🏏 A Trimmed Pitch and Good Humor
Despite the washout, the team spirit was already on display. Our returning member, the ever-cheeky Chris, made an early trip to the grounds and shared a photo that got everyone talking. Captioned “Am giving the grounds a good cut today,” it came with the perfect dose of sarcasm and dry wit. Although Chris didn’t actually hop on a mower himself (I hope he didn't), it was clear he was there to check in on the preparations and the pitch—serving as a symbolic reminder that we're all itching to get back to our second home.
We were all excited to reconnect at the intra-club game, especially the new faces joining our squad. While that reunion has been slightly delayed, the energy remains high and the wait only makes it sweeter.

Welcome to All Members – New, Returning & Veteran
To all new and returning players: welcome! Whether you're donning the YCC whites for the first time or the fifteenth, you’re part of a club built on camaraderie, passion, and fair competition. The culture here is one where everyone gets a chance, regardless of skill level. Opportunities will come—just be patient and bring the right spirit to the field.
A few friendly reminders as we kick off:
Punctuality matters. Please report to the ground on time. We need all hands on deck to prep the field.
Dress code is strict whites, including pads. Look the part, play the part.
No on-field arguments. Our games are friendly but played competitively. Let’s keep it classy.
Scoring is everyone’s job. Learn how to operate the electronic scoring system. Don’t leave it to just two people.
Bring your own reusable water bottles. We're cutting down on plastic this season.

Calling All Storytellers, Shutterbugs & Sledgers
The blog you’re reading right now is only as rich as the stories we all share. This season, I’d love to make our write-ups livelier and more personal—with your help.
Whether it's:
A hilarious moment on the field,
A brilliant individual performance,
Banter from the boundary,
A behind-the-scenes look at club life, or
A tough day you want to rant about (constructively, of course 😉)…
I want to hear it all. More importantly, I need pictures—the more, the better. Action shots, candid group moments, tea breaks, field prep—you name it. Send them my way so we can make each post memorable and capture the real heart of YCC.
Let’s tell our story together.
Here’s to a season full of clean drives, safe hands, smooth run-ups, and most importantly—great memories with even greater mates. See you at the ground. Let’s make 2025 one for the books! 🏏💚
