YCC’s Four‑Game Sprint: Highs, Lows, and Lessons

In the space of seven days, YCC’s 2025 squad saw the full spectrum of cricket — a washout, a win, and two testing chases.

On July 26th, we faced Nightwatchmen CC… or rather, the clouds did. YCC won the toss, batted, watched Harry belt 63 off 50 and Rajit raise a fluent 50, and then… the skies decided they’d had enough cricket for the day. The rain‑interrupted finish left both teams with an abandoned result, our scoreboard looking like a half‑written story. The positive? We were dry enough to go again the next day.

And what a next day it was. July 27th’s clash with Masters Foundation CC was a reminder of how good this YCC side can be when all cylinders fire. The bowlers set the tone — Rohan (3 wickets), Rafi (2), Tibish (2), and Chris striking early — holding the hosts to 154. Then came the demolition job: Kishore Kanna Ramalingam unfurled a dazzling, unbeaten 100 off 74 balls*, an innings full of crisp drives and effortless sixes. This wasn’t just a century — it was a statement. He found perfect support from Anuradha Gamage (44*), and together they chased down the target in just 18.4 overs.

Fast forward to Friday, August 1st and the away fixture at Ramblers CC. The hosts piled on the runs — 289 on a ground where the ball seemed magnetically drawn to the rope. Still, YCC’s bowlers kept plugging away, with Thaya, Harry, Echi, Raj, and Ranjith among the wickets. Chasing a mountain, Venkat continued his rich vein of form, crafting a fine 52. Over the past few weeks, he’s quietly become one of our most dependable run‑getters, showing new levels of confidence and composure at the crease. With Syed Abdullah adding a lively 26 and Sri chipping in with 23, we fought hard before finishing 103 runs shy.

Then came Saturday, August 2nd against Toronto Rebels CC — a stern test against one of the season’s most dangerous batting units. The Rebels posted 279 despite three wickets from Rafi and tidy spells from Rajat, Lahiru, Echi, Rajit, and Karthik. In reply, the early wickets hurt, but Harry (38), Rajit (21), and Echi (14) resisted to push us past the 150 mark before falling 126 runs short. A tough day, but one played in true YCC spirit — no drop in effort, no shortage of encouragement out in the middle.

So, in the space of four games we had: a rained‑off tease, a thumping win, and two hard‑learnt lessons. That’s cricket. Some days you’re raising your bat, other days you’re raising an eyebrow at the scoreboard. But every match adds another thread to the tapestry of our 2025 season — one we’re determined to keep weaving with pride.

Next up, August 9th sees us take on ICICI Bank CC, a side always full of energy and a knack for surprise performances. The very next day, August 10th, we meet Old Bais CC, a fixture that never fails to deliver drama. It’s a back‑to‑back challenge tailor‑made for YCC’s resilience — and we’ll be ready!
